Uber, taxi or private transfer in Santiago?

A practical guide for visitors about Uber, taxi or private transfer in Santiago?, with information to plan the visit, compare transport options and organise the return journey with greater confidence.

No single option is best for everyone

Choose according to time, passengers, luggage, child-seat needs, language, waiting tolerance and whether you prefer to book before travelling.

Official airport taxi

Official Basic and Tourism taxis operate 24/7 and are contracted at authorized airport counters. This remains an option when some public connections are closed.

Ride-hailing apps

Apps provide an estimate before acceptance, but price/pick-up time vary with demand, traffic and availability. Follow current airport pick-up instructions and verify plate/driver.

Pre-booked private transfer

Lets you agree origin, destination, time and service conditions in advance. Useful for families, groups or substantial luggage. Check inclusions, waiting and cancellation policy before payment.

Do not omit public transport

RED 555 connects to Pajaritos and 444 to La Cisterna. For a light traveller at a compatible time it can be much cheaper than door-to-door options.

Compare fares correctly

RED bus is CLP 795 in September 2026. Taxi/app/private-transfer prices are not universal. Compare quotes for the same address, date, time and passenger count.

Families and safety

Ask specifically for a child seat if needed and confirm luggage/stroller capacity. At the airport use authorized taxi channels; with apps/private services verify driver and vehicle.

Weather and time

Door-to-door travel reduces exposure in winter rain or with heavy luggage. In summer avoid long waits in sun with children. Overnight, verify what is actually operating.

How to pay on RED and Metro

Santiago's RED buses, Metro and Tren Nos form an integrated system. Travel is validated with a bip! card or enabled bip!QR code. Bank cards may fund supported top-up mechanisms, but should not be described as though any credit or debit card can simply be tapped on the validator.

Authorized transport and airport rules

Paid passenger transport to and from airports is subject to specific rules. Supreme Decree 211 regulates airport services covered by that framework and provides for a special register. Law 21.787 strengthened penalties for informal transport and illegal passenger solicitation/intermediation; ground transport operating through counters inside airport facilities may provide only services paid for in advance. Avoid informal solicitation in or around the terminal.
